Joshua Justin Travis has deep roots in Park Forest, having grown up on Sangamon Street. From an early age, he recognized the importance of community resources and education, which shaped his dedication to public service. Joshua is a proud 2010 graduate of Rich East High School and has gone on to earn an impressive educational background, including a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology with minors in Biological Sciences and Criminal Justice from Illinois State University, a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from DePaul University, and he is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership at Governors State University.

Throughout his career, Joshua has worked at the intersection of community advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and strategic program development. His experience includes key leadership roles at organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, Children’s Home & Aid, and Youth Guidance. Each role has allowed Joshua to sharpen his skills in supporting communities, developing innovative programs, and advocating for resources that address the unique challenges faced by families.

Joshua’s involvement with village leadership began as a commissioner on the Park Forest Youth Commission, where he worked to ensure the voices of young people were heard and that they had access to educational resources. This passion for uplifting the community has continued throughout his life as he has volunteered with village departments and supported families in accessing the resources they need.

As a candidate for the Park Forest Library Board, Joshua brings his experience, dedication, and passion for community service to the forefront. He believes that by investing in the people of Park Forest, we can build a stronger, more resilient village that meets the needs of all its residents.

My Story
Joshua is a dedicated advocate for nonprofits, partnering with community leaders nationwide to develop and implement strategic, community-driven programs. His life and career have been shaped by the belief that resilience and determination are essential not only for survival but for true growth and success.

Joshua has built a successful career supporting national, state, and local nonprofits, including the Alzheimer's Association, Global Alzheimer's Platform, Children’s Home & Aid, Youth Guidance, The Chicago Public Education Fund, and the Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus.

As a skilled facilitator and leader, Joshua brings a wealth of expertise to his work.
